Gartmore House

Gartmore House management welcomes the Wagner Society:

Below, Wagner Society Chair, Dale Bilsland introduces members to the programme for the study course weekend:

Under Derek Watson's encyclopedic and colourfully told narrative, we find Wagner now in Zurich where congenial friends, visitors, and patrons encouraged him during his exile from Germany following involvement in the Dresden revolt of 1849.  The Swiss environment, the mountain scenery, and his relations with Mathilde Wesendonck form the background to the creation of the early parts of the Ring Cycle, and Tristan und Isolde.  We follow him to Venice, Lucerne, and Paris.  In Paris a new Tannhäuser is commissioned by Napoleon III.  Triumph or disaster?  Amnesty?  All was revealed!

Situated in the Trossachs, Stirlingshire, FK8 3RS, near Aberfoyle and the Lake of Menteith,Gartmore House was built by William Adam in 1793 as a home for the Graham family. Run by a charitable trust as a conference centre, all areas have disabled access.

Full residential and day rates will be published on the announcement of the next course to be held Septemmber, 2018.

An evening bar is available for sale of drinks.

An announcement about our next course will be made soon.

A detailed programme and information about reading material is sent out in early June with a reminder for the final payment. Special requests for rooms, diet and pick up from Stirling Station can be made at that time.
